John K. Castle was recently awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Franklin Pierce University
- Castle told the 2014 graduates in his acceptance speech that the intellectual growth, new analytical skills and strengthened character traits their studies at Franklin Pierce have fostered are essential to a productive and successful life.
John Castle has provided significant support to:
- The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he has endowed one Associate/Assistant Professorship in Economics and five graduate fellowships;
- Harvard, where he acted as Chair of the Harvard University Parents Fund in the middle 1990’s and has endowed various Library Funds;
- Yale, where he provided the early endowment funds for the Program in Ethics, Politics and Economics. He also funded the pathology laboratory at the Yale-New Haven Cancer Hospital; and
- The University of Pennsylvania, where he funded the Laminitis Institute for diseases of the horse’s feet. At Penn, he has also been on the Board of Overseers of the Law School and has provided them with substantial financial support.
John Castle is a:
- Life Member of the MIT Corporation, the governing body of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and
- Former director of the MIT Investment Management Company.
John Castle has served as a member of various Harvard University Visiting Committees, including the Harvard Business School. Further, Mr. Castle has served on many of the governance committees of the Archdiocese of New York including the Trustees of St. Patrick’s Cathedral where he is the Chairman of the Executive Committee.
John Castle has contributed personal time and generous contributions to Palm Beach charities, including:
- Autism Speaks
- The Bascom Palmer Eye Institute
- Comprehensive Alcoholism Rehabilitation Programs
- Catholic Charities Diocese of Palm Beach
- Catholic Charities/Elder Program
- The Palm Beach Infectious Disease Institute
And dozens of other philanthropies.
